Dr. Keith Shafer

Dr. Shafer is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering teaching Ethics and Software Applications Capstone.  He earned his undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from Mount Vernon Nazarene University, and his MS and PhD degrees in Computer Science from The Ohio State University with specializations in distributed computing, databases, and computability theory.  He has patents in information discovery, distributed communication, and data transformation.

Dr. Shafer has more than 30 years of industry experience in applications research and development, as well as consulting to improve strategic client decisions around hardware, software, and systems.  After retiring from the private sector in 2019, he began working at OSU as a practical expression of one of his greatest passions… teaching.
